OUR STORY

When we first set up shop at 229 Geary Ave, the street was a whole lot quieter. We were one of the first on the strip, opening our doors ten years ago before the neighborhood really started to hum. We built this place with our own bare hands, wanting to create an "Ontario cavern"—a cozy, lodge-style tribute to cottage country tucked into our industrial downtown street. To this day, we still love watching the trains roll by the windows; it keeps things feeling real and true to what we believe in.

Over the last decade, we’ve been lucky to have a wildly talented and creative staff who helped us make the place what it is today. We’ve had a front-row seat to the neighborhood’s growth, and we truly love our fellow local businesses and the community of locals who call this area home. We’ve always believed that the best nights happen when good beer, good friends, and good food all come together. Whether you’re here for a nostalgic trip on our vintage arcade games or playing something new, we’ve made sure there’s a spot for everyone.

We are a welcoming place for all ages. We like to think the bar is easy on the eyes, but she still has a real, lived-in feel that doesn't require any fuss. Whether you’re stopping by in a casual hoodie or you’re all dressed up for a night out, you’ll fit right in. It has been such a joy to be the backdrop for so many celebrations over the last ten years, and we feel lucky to have shared in those moments. We are so grateful for every memory made within these walls so far, and we can’t wait for many more to come.

We are so happy to have a North of Brooklyn outpost right here inside The Greater Good. While they are a separate business from our bar, you can order their pizza to enjoy at your table while you quench your thrust with something from the bar.
